As such we present the SCILIF SunFibre fibre optical cable, which is a unique lighting system that immediately raises visibility, at the touch of a button.
SCILIF SunFibre Technology
SCILIF SunFibre is a unique lighting system that improves visibility in the dark and other low light conditions. The technology provides proactive protection and, unlike retroreflective elements, does not require the reflection from external light sources to function.
How Does It Work?
It is a side emitting (360°) light radiating optical fibre, illuminated by a highly efficient electroluminescent, light emitting diode (LED), powered by a microprocessor-controlled battery pack. Providing a visibility range up to 3km, the SCILIF SunFibre system is easy to operate and charge.
Who developed SCILIF SunFibre?
The company SCILIF s.r.o. are the organisation behind the system, with the name deriving from the phrase „Science for Life “. This Czech company specialise in the development and production of technologies for increasing personal safety. Based on spatially emitting light fibres protected by a textile cover, which were development in cooperation with the Czech Technical University in Prague and the Technical University of Liberec, also in the Czech Republic.
Who is SCILIF SunFibre for?
It is for everyone who needs, or wants, to have increased visibility, in their surroundings at any given time or place. It is perfect for the likes of emergency services, paramedics, firefighters, police and so on. It is also useful for the likes of sailors on boats, and athletes such as runners, skaters, cyclists who operate in shared spaces. Using a light conducting cable, in low-light conditions increases visibility significantly, and thus the wearers personal safety, and as such it is also very suitable for use by motorcyclists.!

Why have PSí implemented SCILIF SunFibre into their motorcycle wear?
Throughout our existence the protection of motorcyclists, using our clothing, has been at the very core of our mission. As such the SCILIF SunFibre technology appealed to us immediately. The motorcyclist moves quickly on the road, often faster than others around them, so it is useful to increase their visibility at greater distances.

We are not in favour of riders using high beam headlights during the day, as it tends to dazzle other road users, often causing the opposite of good safety practice, and harming the relationship between bikers and drivers. We feel that the SCILIF SunFibre technology helps solve the traffic visibility issue in a more sophisticated manner.

Can SCILIF SunFibre be operated whilst riding the bike?
The latest version of the system is very easy to use. Simply press the 3cm x 3cm plastic button on the jacket. It is located on the right side of the chest, so it is not necessary to stop the ride, as the user can keep their hand on the throttle. The functional check of the system can be done by looking in the mirror, where the light should be visible in reflection.

Maintenance of jackets using SCILIF SunFibre
Maintenance is very easy, simply recharge the SCILIF SunFibre regularly. The battery status can be seen on the 5000 mAh POWER BANK DUOPORT, located in the inner right hand side pocket. Prior to washing the jacket, the power source should be removed, by disconnecting it from the textile tape with the USB end. The tape and light guides are washable. The optical cables were developed for use in extreme conditions and are mechanically resilient, thus meeting our requirements for motorcycle use. In the event of severe damage, by fall or accident, we can replace the light with a new one, in our manufacturing plant service centre.

If you are guiding a group or simply first in a smaller number of riders, then the SCILIF SunFibre system can be a great help for orienting those behind you. This is especially valid when passing through intersections of busy cities, during sudden weather deterioration, riding to destinations at dusk or early morning starts, and so on.
